Chiquito de la Calzada
Everyone knew him as Chiquito, but his real name was Gregorio Sánchez Fernández, our media fistro, who somehow changed the way we talk and walk, died on November 11, 2017, at the age of 85 due to angina. Death came to him after a few days in the Carlos Haya Hospital in Malaga, a cardiac complication took him to the ICU, where he would finally lose his life.
He was discovered at the age of 62, for the television world and hired for the comedy program Genio and figure on Antena 3 Television, by the hand of Tomás Summers.
Pepita was the great love of his life, he met her while working at the Manolita Chen Chinese Theater. The couple had no children.
His remains rest in the Church of San Pablo in the Trinidad neighborhood, where they accompany those of his beloved Pepita in the columbarium of Nuestro Padre Jesús Cautivo. Church built on the land occupied by Isabel la Católica's camp during the siege of the city of Malaga.
Before becoming a comedian, he was a flamenco singer and clapper, performing alongside the greatest, such as Camarón de la Isla, for example.

“Te das cuen”, “Eres un fistro de bambino”, “¡Cobarde, percador!”, “Hasta luego Lucas”, “A can de mor”, “¡Torpedo!”, “Diodenal”, “Al ataquer” and “Grijandemore” were some of the idioms frequently used by Chiquito.
Chiquito de la Calzada's traffic light, installed in Malaga on Tomás Echeverría street in Huelin, his last residence, not only tells jokes and shouts the most popular expressions of the legendary comedian, but also sings Christmas carols. It was not used for traffic due to European approval issues. It is logical that a blind person, for example, of German origin, will not understand a non-standardized sound in European traffic lights if you say: “This horse comes from bonanza”, or “Jarl”.
How great you were, Chiquito!
