They called him "The Tongue"
A character who could have belonged to the Malaga aristocracy.
A curious character who walked alone through the streets of Malaga in the late seventies and early eighties. You could mainly find him in the centre, although he wandered everywhere.
Many legends have been written about him, more or less credible, about his aristocratic past. They say that he dressed in his immaculate white suit, with the bearing and elegance of a marquis.
For years he was a beloved character in the city, where he was seen parading during Holy Week.
His deceased father was a high-ranking officer in the army and after the death of his mother he was totally abandoned, neglecting his hygiene and physical appearance.
His state of neglect was such that when he appeared on the street people would say: Here comes The Tongue.
He once wanted to be a bullfighter and some jokers organised a bullfight for him at the August fair, with the corresponding poster and when he finished the walk they released a pig, and the Tongue started to cry at that moment.
They say that his life was pain, wine and loneliness, accompanied only by his coat.
On the streets he received provocations and insults, to which he never answered with words. A stamp on the ground was his answer. Only some knew that he was mute.
The naughty children of those years were scared by saying: The Tongue is coming!
He died in the eighties, run over by a car on Avenida de la Paloma, although it was not published in any media. He was taken to the Carlos de Haya hospital, where in the operating room his heart gave its last stamp.
The musical group Chambao has dedicated a song to him.
